The Truman College Technical Center opened in
May 1980. Its primary mission is to provide short-term, intensive
training in a variety of service areas that lead directly to employment.
The Truman Technical Center is accredited by the North Central Association
of Colleges and Schools and approved by the Illinois Community College
Board and the Illinois Office of Education, Department of Adult, Vocational
and Technical Education.

The field of Cosmetology offers challenging opportunities
for men and women. The Cosmetology Technology program is designed to give students
thorough training in the art, skills, and applied science of the
treatment of the hair, nails, and skin.
Cosmetology Technology is an advanced certificate program that meets the standards
of the Department of Professional Regulations, State of Illinois,
in the total hours, teaching staff, equipment, facilities, library
and course content.
Forty credits and 1500 clock hours prepare the students for licensure
by the Illinois State Board of Cosmetology and qualifies the student
for immediate employment. The length of the program is approximately
one year for a full-time student, and 18 months for a part-time
student.

Truman College offers an Automotive Technology Program that gives
students the skills and understanding of theory, function,
and operations of automotive systems. Upon completion of
the program, students are prepared to begin a professional
career in the automotive field as automotive technicians,
service writers, auto parts personnel, and a variety of other
exciting positions.
We offer a two-year program leading
to an Associate in Applied Science degree. Students take automotive
technical courses as well as general education courses.
Courses include Introduction
to Automotive Technology, Electrical,
Brake, and Fuel systems, Steering
and Suspension, Manual
and Automatic Transmissions, Heating
and Air Conditioning, Engine
Construction, and Engine
Performance. In addition to the theoretical
and practical instruction, students develop comprehension of
and appreciation for safety standards, work ethics, and customer
service relations.
This program is certified by the National
Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF/ASE).
It also prepares students for the National Institute for Automotive
Service Excellence
(ASE)
certification exams.

Appliance Technology
Appliance Technicians are in high demand! This three semester
career training program leads to lucrative job opportunities repairing
major appliances, such as, refrigerators, air conditioners, ranges,
washers, dryers, and microwave ovens. Learn how to read schematic
diagrams and troubleshoot electrical circuits. Become EPA certified
while learning refrigeration and air conditioning skills in this
