The Truman College Technical Center opened in May 1980. Its primary mission is to provide short-term, intensive training in a variety of service areas that lead directly to employment. The Truman Technical Center is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and approved by the Illinois Community College Board and the Illinois Office of Education, Department of Adult, Vocational and Technical Education.

The field of Cosmetology offers challenging opportunities for men and women. The Cosmetology Technology program is designed to give students thorough training in the art, skills, and applied science of the treatment of the hair, nails, and skin.

Cosmetology Technology is an advanced certificate program that meets the standards of the Department of Professional Regulations, State of Illinois, in the total hours, teaching staff, equipment, facilities, library and course content.

Forty credits and 1500 clock hours prepare the students for licensure by the Illinois State Board of Cosmetology and qualifies the student for immediate employment. The length of the program is approximately one year for a full-time student, and 18 months for a part-time student.
