There are four ways students may make appointments:
Sign in at the reception desk in L129
Call the Coordinator, Anthony Johnston at (773) 907-4790
Call the reception at (773) 907-4785
Make an appointment with the tutor (In this case it is the responsibility
of the tutor to make sure that the appointment is noted on the sign-in
sheet.)
Because of limited resources, tutors and appointments are in great
demand. Therefore, the following rules apply:
It is the student's responsibility to inform the Tutoring Center
of any cancellations. You may call the above numbers or come in person
to do so. If you do not cancel with the coordinator, reception desk
or tutor, you will lose that weekly spot. It is important that the
student be sure that he/she can make the appointment and makes a note
of it.
If you cancel four times in a semester, you will lose your weekly
spot and must see the coordinator to request another.
There is a grace period of ten minutes to be late. If you have not
arrived ten minutes after the appointment, the appointment is open
to any walk-in student. Tutors may not take another student before
the ten-minute grace period is up.
All English, ESL, and Writing sessions between the hours of 12:00
noon and 3:00pm are assigned on a walk-in basis. There will be no
weekly or sign-in appointments during those times. This is done to
maximize the accessibility to these tutors during peak tutoring hours.
All sessions except for Writing and Computers are one hour long. Writing
sessions are a half-hour long.
Sessions may be individual or in small groups. That decision is left
up to the discretion of the tutor. Most math tutoring is done in groups
due to demand and feasibility. Computer tutoring is NOT by appointment,
but is primarily "troubleshooting" in the open computer lab
(L567).
