Early Alert Program — Information for Faculty

The Early Alert Program is a retention tool designed to increase student success and persistence. Early Alert provides a systematic way for faculty to identify students early in the semester who are having difficulties in class or need extra help to improve their academic performance. Identified students are contacted by the Student Success & Leadership Institute (SSLI) and provided an opportunity to utilize a variety of Truman College support services (i.e. tutoring, advising, success workshops). The system allows both faculty and student services professionals to be proactive in assisting students. There are three simple steps:

  1. Identify students early in the semester who are having difficulties in class.
  2. Notify the student that he/she will be referred to the SSLI, then complete the Early Alert Referral Form, available on the intranet.
  3. Update the SSLI throughout the semester if there is additional information they should know about the student (i.e. performance has improved, student has dropped the class, etc.)
