Do's and Don'ts for Faculty
- DO
- Be aware of students who seem to struggle more than average
- Ask if they have always struggled with this subject
- Ask if they know where to get help
- Comply with all requests for accommodation from the DAC
- Contact the DAC if you suspect that a student has a learning disability but have not received documentation
- Remember confidentiality
- Contact the DAC if you suspect that a student has a disability
- Become familiar with the DAC and its services
- DON'Ts
- Don't ask a student if he/she has a disability
- Don't refer to a student's disability in class or with colleagues
- Don't make accommodations without documentation
Syllabus Statement Guidelines
It is strongly suggested that every course syllabus include a statement addressing the responsibilities of students with disabilities, similar to the one below:
