International Student Requirements

  1. Must have their registration forms stamped and initialed by the Admissions and Advising Center before courses are entered into the computer.
  2. Are mandated to register for and complete a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester.
  3. Will be allowed a maximum of six (6) semesters (excluding summers) to complete a degree, unless English as a Second Language (ESL) course are required or otherwise advised.
  4. Cannot drop a course without the permission of the Assistant Dean of Admissions and Advising.
  5. Are required to pre-register for spring and fall semesters.
  6. Must register as a VI student and pay the appropriate tuition fee.
  7. Who would like to cross-enroll in another college/university should request permission in writing from the Assistant Dean of Admissions and Advising.
  8. Must inform the office of Admissions and Advising of any change of address, plans to transfer to another school, change of course/major or change of immigration status.
  9. Are not allowed to accept off-campus employment unless authorized by the Assistant Dean of Admissions and Advising.
  10. Are required to attend an orientation for visa students.
  11. Are required at the time of registration to do one of the following:
    • Purchase medical/health insurance through the City Colleges of Chicago Insturance Policy carrier
    • Show proof of comparable insurance coverage approved by the college.
  12. F-1 Visa students must submit a list of courses relating to their major. An academic advisor will prepare the list.
  13. Are not allowed to register for classes withour a valid Truman College I-20 A-B.
  14. Should be aware that approval to change from B1/B2 (Tourist) to F-1 (Student) is granted by Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS). If denied approval, by INS, a student must withdraw from classes without a tuition refund.

This certifies that I have read and understood very clearly the above requirements. I also understand that the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) may inquire about my academic status at Truman College and the school can release to them any information requested by them. I am fully aware that failure to adhere to the above requirements may affect my legal status in the United States and as a student of Truman College.
