Thank you for considering Truman College! We offer three major programs:

  • Credit, for students wishing to earn a two-year associate degree that will either transfer to a four-year college or university or prepare them for a career
  • Adult Education, which offers free English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, basic literacy and math skills (ABE), preparation for the high school equivalency (GED) exam in English and Spanish, and preparation for the U.S. Citizenship Exam
  • Continuing Education, which offers short-term certificate programs and individual classes for students who want to improve their skills or start a new career. Leisure, personal enrichment, self or professional development classes are also available.

Please follow these four easy steps to prepare for the registration process:

  1. Apply for admission. Our application is online. If you do not have access to a computer, you can apply at the Student Success and Leadership Institute at Truman College, in Room 1435.
  2. Placement tests are required for all new students.Tests are given in our assessment center. The results will determine appropriate course placement. The test battery takes approximately two to three hours.

    Transfer students should forward an official copy of their transcripts to Truman College prior to enrollment and should meet with an advisor to determine placement testing requirements if any.
  3. Returning students may register online using My CCC.

  4. Payment may be made by cash, check, VISA, Master Card or, for students who are eligible for financial aid, a financial aid payment extension form.

How can I become a Truman student?

Truman College has an open acceptance policy. Student may apply online or in person.

Do I have to take an admittance test?

Truman College does not require students to take an admittance test. However, students are required to take a placement test to assess their English, reading and mathematics level. Students who hold a bachelors degree or have successfully completed a college level English or mathematics course with a grade of 'C' or better may be eligible to have the placement test requirement waived. Students who have taken the ACT may also be eligible to have some of the placement tests waived. For additional information, visit the Assessment Center.

What is a placement test?

The placement test is a computerized instrument used to assess the student's English, reading and mathematics level. Review materials are available in the Assessment Center and the Admission and Advising Center.

How much does it cost to attend Truman College?

Truman College offers students the opportunity to receive a quality education at affordable rates. Tuition and fees for the credit program are posted. Visit Continuing Education for the cost of these classes. Adult Education (ESL and GED) is free.

Can I use financial aid to pay for my tuition?

Yes. Students who qualify for financial aid may use the funds to pay for courses offered in the credit program and for technical programs offered in the Truman Technical Center. Students enrolled in Continuing Education classes may not use financial aid to pay for their courses. Adult Education classes are free of charge.

How do I apply for financial aid?

Students may apply for financial aid by completing the FAFSA form and mailing it to the Department of Education. Students may also apply for financial aid online.

Can I transfer college credit hours from another college or university to Truman?

Yes. Students who have earned college credit from another college or university can request to have those credits evaluated. The request must be in writing and sent to the Registrar's Office, 1145 W. Wilson Ave., Chicago, IL 60640. Official copies of transcripts must be mailed or delivered in a sealed envelope. Open transcripts delivered by students will not be accepted. For registration purposes only, an unofficial copy of the transcript can be used by the college advisor to determine if a prerequisite has been met.

Will my Truman courses transfer to other colleges/universities?

Yes, the Truman Associate in Arts & Associate in Science degree curriculum is intended for students planning to transfer to a college or university for the baccalaureate degree. We offer various transfer program degrees.

Our associate degree courses comprise the freshman and sophomore years of the bachelors degree. Most accredited universities award third year, junior standing, to Truman students who transfer with our A.A. or A.S. degree. Some universities have specific course recommendations and students should always check with their planned university destination about course articulation. How do I register for classes?

Students who have a record established in our student database may register online using my.ccc.edu, in person, or via the telephone at (312) 553-3450.

Can someone help me plan my education goals and/or determine a major?

Students who need assistance with planning their educational goals and/or selecting a major can contact a college advisor via email at tradmissions@ccc.edu or stop by the Admission and Advising Center on the main campus in room 1112. All online applicants are assigned a college advisor who will contact them and offer assistance.

How do I learn about programs and services?

Students who are new to Truman College should attend one of the many informational sessions conducted during the registration period. Students may also schedule an appointment with a college advisor to receive additional information about programs and services.

Are there activities for students on campus?

Our academic and cultural club center is a great place to meet other students and learn about our student clubs. We also have many academic support services offered by the Student Success and Leadership Institute.

Where can I buy textbooks?

Students are expected to buy their own textbooks and supplies as specified for each course. These may be purchased at Beck's Bookstore, 4520 North Broadway. All required textbooks are available at the bookstore. The Office of Student Activities sponsors a used Book Exchange at the beginning of each semester. Students may sell and/or purchase used textbooks at the Book Exchange.

If I am taking an ACT test - what code should I use to send the results to Truman College?

0970 is the ACT code for Truman College.
